Well, yesterday, the head of the FBI said the following:
“You cannot bring a firearm, loaded, with multiple magazines to any sort of protest that you want. It’s that simple.”
This is the man Trump appointed head of the FBI. Ergo, he is the man Trump approves to lead the FBI. Trump has amen’d his approval by not firing this man, who clearly neither understands what the law is and/or has contempt for it.
The fact is you have a right to bring a firearm, “loaded, with multiple magazines” to “any sort of protest you want” in states where it is still legal for American citizens to carry a loaded firearm. As in MN, where a man was executed in the street by armed government “agents” who took the man’s legally carried pistol.
It is that simple. It is that alarming.
This is what those of us who voted for Trump voted against. Yet – mirabile dictu – we have as the head of the FBI a man whose views of the first and second amendment are in congruence with those of Joe Biden’s head of the FBI. Or whoever Kamala Harris would have anointed.
It is sickening.
Who vetted this Patel person? 
Trump’s defenders say that – the first time around – his mistake was having the wrong people around him. They undermined his efforts to Make America Great Again. Trump got a second chance to not make that same mistake again – and he clearly has.
Assuming it was a mistake – either time.
The evidence suggests it’s not. Conclusive evidence will either appear – or not – within the next 24 hours in the form of Patel being fired for what he said, which tells us what he thinks. No apology is going to salve this. He has to go. If he stays, we will know that MAGA is a con job. The evidence strongly suggests that already but this will be definitive because it is indefensible. 
Just as what happened to Alex Pretti is indefensible. He was not a “domestic terrorist.” At worst, he was a man who thought this was still America. The country where an American could expect to not be summarily executed in the street by a thug scrum of government agents, for the affront of talking back to government agents and attempting to shield a woman thrown to the ground and pepper sprayed by government agents.
It is to be hoped that the people who are on the liberty side of the fence will not make the same mistake that those on the other side make. That mistake being to put their politics ahead of their principles. To dismiss with contempt ugly facts when these ugly facts make someone on their side of the fence look bad – because they are bad. 
Kyle Rittenhouse did nothing wrong – or illegal – by bringing his rifle to a protest. The MAGA crowed defended him. Rightly so. For the same reason, Patel cannot – must not – be defended. Those who do have lost any standing to complain when the Hut! Hut! Hut! crew shows up to take their guns.
Which is coming – if he’s not going.
